Noosa National Park Upgrades

Noosa National Park on the Sunshine Coast will receive a major facelift thanks to a $2 million funding boost from the 2017-18 State Budget.

Speaking from Laguna Lookout in Noosa, Minister for National Parks Steven Miles said the funding was part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $40 million investment over two years to revitalise Queensland’s national parks and improve the visitor experience.

“Noosa National Park is a major economic driver and tourism drawcard for the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Miles said.

“It also has the honour of being the second most-visited park in Queensland and has recorded more than 1.4 million visits.

“The $2 million funding package will see the park’s tracks, look-outs and picnic areas upgraded, giving visitors a world-class experience.

“Not only can visitors get the chance to see dolphins and whales from the cliffs here in the Park, they very often get an up close and personal experience with wild koalas in the open forest.

“It’s just a very special, amazing place.”

The Minister said work was close to completion on a joint State-Commonwealth $800,000 upgrade of the coastal walking track as far as Hell’s Gates – which includes a new viewing area with seating at Dolphin Point lookout, and works at the picnic area at the Park’s main entrance.

“With this latest cash injection, rangers will be able to start planning for further work on the tracks and lookouts, and completion of the revamp of the main picnic area,” Mr Miles said.

“The works will also help maintain the natural values of the park while offering a high-quality visitor experience.”

Mr Miles said $35 million of the extra $40 million for parks state-wide would go towards job-creating capital works and infrastructure.

“This is an important investment to protect natural and cultural values, and maintain the range and quality of visitor experiences.

“Other parks on the Sunshine Coast will also benefit from the extra funds in the Budget including Conondale and Glass House Mountains national parks, and the Cooloola section of Great Sandy National Park.”
