Project Overview

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and Somerset Regional Council have engaged The University of Queensland’s Business School Service Innovation Alliance (SIA) to carry out visitor research on The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT).

The purpose of the project is to profile trail users to provide insights into market awareness, user experience, and user motives, behaviour, and spending patterns.

Project Activities

The team will use multiple data sources to develop a comprehensive market profile of trail users, including:
• User Survey (face-to-face at various points along the trail)
• Online Survey
• Focus Groups

The project will take place between March 2020 and July 2020.

What types of information will be collected?

The survey will capture the following information:
• Information sources that visitors use to plan their trip;
• Motivations for visiting the trail;
• Expenditure while on the trail;
• Overall satisfaction with the trail experience;
• Trail user demographics.

How we will engage with you

A key component of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Visitor Research program’s success is engagement with stakeholders and community members to incorporate various views and knowledge of the trail. Engagement will occur through email correspondence and focus group forums. We will provide specific dates and details of various engagement activities at appropriate stages of the project’s development.
