Have you got a new idea that helps people to get active?

The Active Australia Innovation Challenge

The Problem

More than 50% of Australians miss out on the exercise they need.

Their heart health could be  at risk.

When you get active more often, you are less likely to have a heart attack or to develop heart disease. Regular physical activity helps to control other heart health risks, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and being overweight.

The Challenge

Got an idea to inspire your community to get moving? Share it with us!

We encourage entries from schools, tertiary institutions, councils and community groups as well as culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Come up with a new project, partnership, product or process to make a difference.

Create an idea to meet the needs of your chosen community and make it easier for people to exercise.

The Reward

Help to create an active community.

Active communities are healthier, happier and
more connected.

That’s why the Active Australia Innovation Challenge is awarding a $10,000 grant to up to eight winning ideas

An Active Australia Innovation Challenge from the Heart Foundation

What is the Active Australia Innovation Challenge?

The Active Australia Innovation Challenge is part of the Healthy Heart Initiative funded by the Australian Government. It aims to encourage schools (primary and secondary), tertiary institutions (universities, TAFEs, colleges), and other organisations, including councils and community groups to raise awareness of the benefits of physical activity and develop and implement innovative project ideas to encourage physical activity in a chosen group or community.

What is Innovation?

In the Active Australia Innovation Challenge, innovation refers to:

  • A creative or new idea for a project, partnership, product and/or process to increase physical activity within a specific group or community.
  • Innovation may be location specific, that is, what’s innovative in one area may not be in another area or setting across Australia

How does the challenge work?

Schools, universities, TAFEs, colleges, councils and community groups are encouraged to come up with an innovative idea.

The project idea should encourage physical activity in a chosen group or community and be submitted via an online application form. Eligible ideas will be identified using the guidelines and put forward for shortlisting. Finalists will be given the opportunity to present their project proposal virtually in front of a national judging panel of experts.
