Silver in Ultimate Disc for Australia
Australia's Barramundis win the Silver Medal in Ultimate Disc World Championship
Posted on 08.07.2016
Ultimate Disc World Championships have just been run in London. The Barramundis, Australia’s Mixed team won the Silver medal in a gallant display going down to the USA Mixed Team.
These Championships are held every 4 years. This year they were attended by 40 nations who sent teams to compete in some or all of the 5 Divisions.
There were 124 teams in all (approx. 2700 players).
The full Australian results are:
- Mens Division (Dingoes) – Bronze medal
- Womens Division (Firetails) – 5th place
- Mixed Division (Barramundis) – Silver medal
- Mens Masters (Wombats) – 7th place
- Womens Masters (Flying Foxes) – Bronze medal
Australia finished in overall second place behind the USA (who won every division!) and qualified for the World Games to be held in Wroclaw, Poland in 2017.
Our best result ever. Made sweeter by the fact that we knocked GB out of the top 6 – some small redemption for the clean sweep by England in the recent Rugby series.
John McNaughton (circled), who worked on the NOLRS program for QORF for the past couple of years is one of the best players in QLD was selected for the Mixed team – and will be coming home with a Silver medal. He was also elected onto the WFDF Athletes Commission. Congratulations John.
He played a significant role in the team’s performance over the week-long competition.
If you’re interested in seeing him in action with the team – the Mixed Final game is available online (free) at: http://livestream.com/wfdf/events/5673464. John’s action starts at about 8.50 into the video.
