Good Practice Outdoors Module

As outdoor organisations we know we should strive for responsible delivery of activities and acknowledge we have a moral obligation to continually evaluate our practices.

We should ask ourselves:

  • How can we enhance our incident prevention measures?
  • How can we strengthen our safety culture?
  • How do we ensure cultural heritage and environmental compliance?
  • How can we make our risk management procedures more effective?

The Australian Adventure Activity Standard and associated Good Practice Guides (Aust AAS) help organisations address these issues.

The Good Practice Outdoors program aims to help organisations implement the Aust AAS by making the process more user-friendly.

The Good Practice Outdoors program offers several benefits to your organisation being:

  1. Enhanced Understanding and Implementation of Aust AAS:
Completing the program will deepen your grasp of the Aust AAS and help you apply them effectively across your organisation.
  2. Compliance Documentation and Process Improvement:
The program assists in documenting your organisation’s compliance with the Aust AAS and identifies areas for system improvement. (see AAAS Compliance Checker below)
  3. Industry Good Practices:
The program aligns your organisation’s practices with industry standards, giving you confidence that your internal policies and procedures meet or exceed requirements.

  7. Insurance Benefits:
By aligning your internal practices with industry standards and documenting this through implementing the Good Practice Outdoor program it could improve the availability and affordability of insurance options.

AAAS Compliance Checker

The Australian Adventure Activity Standard (AAAS) Compliance Checker enables organisations to quickly and easily review their safety and risk management policies and procedures against the current standards set out in the AAAS. Using artificial intelligence (AI), the Compliance Checker, is set up to review a single activity and generate a report based on the material supplied.

By submitting/uploading all activity related policies, procedures, risk management plans, safety plans, etc related to a single activity, the Compliance Checker AI can make an effective and therefore useful analysis.

The cost for each activity is $100.00 inc GST, and Outdoors Queensland financial members receive a 50% discount off the activity cost.

(Seedlings & Co)

I think this is an excellent tool to use for organisations to determine their current and progressing compliance with the AAAS and GPGs.

The Assessment Tool will be an invaluable resource as we begin our audit of the Outdoor Recreation strategy.
(Girl Guides Queensland)

I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for today’s session. It was incredibly valuable, and I now feel confident with the Good Practice Outdoors assessment tool, especially as I prepare to guide our staff through it. Your guidance and explanations were clear and thorough, which made the tool much more understandable and manageable for me.

Congratulations on the course, it is good to have a tool to keep everything organised and make it easier to show compliance.
