Position Details:

The Board currently meets six times each year, along with at least one General Meeting of members per year (AGM is usually held in March each year). Board sub-committees meet on an as required basis. Board members also serve as the judging panel for the Outdoors Queensland Awards, with a judging meeting held in August or September each year (this has been completed for 2024 Outdoors Queensland Awards),

Meetings are generally held at the Outdoors Queensland office in Milton, Brisbane, with capability and option for virtual attendance if required.

This is a voluntary role. Outdoors Queensland contributes to relevant professional development expenses of its Directors and reimburses Directors for expenses incurred in their roles as Directors.

Skills and Experience:

Outdoors Queensland aims to attract and retain an experienced Board to represent the interests of outdoor activities in Queensland. To achieve this, we are seeking an individual with:

  1. legal experience – specialising in NFP sector, integrity or commercial law, and/or
  2. extensive skills and professional background in the commercial sector, with experience in establishing sponsorship and partnerships, and/or
  3. managerial experience in outdoor activities (whether outdoor recreation, outdoor education, outdoor health, outdoor tourism or associated support services.

Previous or current Board experience is highly desirable.

 Eligibility

Applicants must:

  1. Hold and provide their Director ID through the Australian Business Registry Service upon nomination,
  2. Hold or be eligible to hold a blue card,
  3. Be willing to obtain a National Police Check, and
  4. Have reviewed the Outdoors Queensland Constitution (particularly clause 7) to ensure their eligibility.

Review Process and Timeframes:

The following review process is proposed to be conducted:

  • All EOIs will be collated by the Company Secretary and provided to the Outdoors Queensland Board for their review and screening, following the closure of applications. Late EOIs may not be considered.
  • A short list will be established by the Chair who will request interviews with any shortlisted applications, coordinated by the Company Secretary.
  • Following interviews, the Board will consider a motion to appoint an applicant during a meeting of the Board on 20th November 2024.
  • The Chair will contact the successful applicant following the Board meeting, and once the position has been accepted, formal notification will be issued to the Outdoors Queensland membership and wider community.

  • Perform logistical tasks associated with the delivery of outdoor recreation activities, including preparing and packing-down outdoor recreation activity equipment, delivery of equipment trailers to off-site locations, and maintaining equipment storage areas
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures, and follow risk management practices associated with the role
  • Comply with workplace requirements, industry regulations and standards as well as the state-wide program framework
  • Ensure that accompanying teachers / group leaders have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities while conducting activities at the Venue
  • Undertake administrative and program related duties as required.

What we are looking for:

  • Certificate 3 or higher / equivalent in Outdoor Recreation / Outdoor Leadership with the below electives is highly beneficial
    • high ropes, abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, SUP, Archery, low ropes, surfing

About the role?
The Kitchen Coordinator position is responsible for supervising all aspects of kitchen operations, including preparing and providing nutritious meals to campers. Offering a friendly and professional service to guests at all times and supervising other kitchen staff. This position will be preparing and organising the kitchen for service.

What will my time look like?

  • Oversee the inventory, ordering, purchasing, and storage of food, maximising cost control and minimisation of waste

Positions available both Brisbane Northside and Southside.

  • Casual Work – mainly weekends and school holidays
  • Must be able to travel to different locations around Brisbane. We run from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast so there will be work in these areas from time to time as well.
  • Fishing experience is desirable
  • We mainly work with kids, so plenty of patience is necessary
  • Must have a Blue Card or ability to get one
  • First Aid & CPR certificate desirable
  • Able to work with minimal supervision

With a focus on enjoyable, meaningful adventure base learning, activities include low ropes, canoeing and water-based activities, abseiling/ climbing, hiking, treasure hunts and group games. Our clientele ranges from 5-13 in age.

We work with group leaders and activity leaders and based on your experience you may fill one or both of these positions. We are looking for professional people that are lively and have fun making the experience for the young people unforgettable.

Qualifications:

  • Outdoor Education Qualifications (Certificate III or IV).
  • Senior First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Working with Children Check, blue card.
  • Current Driver’s License.
  • A knowledge Scouts Qld (desired not essential)

Here’s what you’ll do

Together with your fellow guide you will lead small groups on multi-day hikes from 2 to 6 days long;

  • Deliver accurate and engaging interpretations on a range of topics from flora and fauna, wildlife, conservation and history of the area;
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by assessing trail conditions, monitoring weather forecasts, and implementing appropriate safety protocols;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in wilderness navigation, first aid, and emergency response procedures;
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the hiking group, encouraging camaraderie and teamwork among participants;
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service, resolving any issues or concerns promptly and professionally;
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless coordination of logistics, including meal preparation, campsite setup, and transportation arrangements.

This is how you’ll know you’re right for this role:

  • Previous experience as a hiking guide, outdoor educator or alternatively experience in Scouts and/or the outdoors and a willingness to learn;
  • Must be comfortable with all aspects of guiding small groups including cooking meals and hosting guests with extensive training provided;
  • Current Remote Area or Wilderness First Aid certification or willingness to obtain prior to starting;
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with a passion for sharing knowledge and inspiring others;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and age groups;
  • Deep appreciation for nature and a commitment to sustainable tourism practices;
  • Physical fitness and stamina to hike long distances with a backpack over varied terrain and in changing weather conditions;
  • Knowledge of the flora, fauna, and cultural heritage of the Scenic Rim with a personal commitment to ongoing learning;
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), Food Safety Certificate (essential), Light Rigid Licence or willingness to obtain;
  • Valid driver’s licence and own vehicle to get to/from the trail.
