What do we know and where are we going?

To date, the Understanding and Preventing Led Outdoor Accidents Data System (UPLOADS) has been used to report and analyse over 20,000 Australian led outdoor activity incidents, including injury, illness, psychosocial, and near miss incidents.

In this webinar we will reflect on the UPLOADS program, data, and the insights it has provided for injury prevention and safety management. This will include discussion of a set of recurring incident contributory factors which appear consistently across the dataset.

In addition, we will provide an update on the newly funded program of research which involves the development of a new risk assessment tool and refinement of current UPLOADS app and reporting process to form the Systems Thinking Accident and Risk System (STARS) digital platform. The intention is to deliver a more usable platform and streamlined processes to support prospective risk assessment and incident reporting and learning for led outdoor activities.

To close the presentation, we will provide details on how providers can get involved to assist in designing and testing the new tool.

About the UPLOADS Research Project

UPLOADS, Understanding and Preventing Led Outdoor Accidents Data System (UPLOADS) is a standardised, national approach to incident reporting and learning for the outdoor sector in Australia. UPLOADS, a novel incident reporting system and national database for the Led Outdoor Activity (LOA) sector, enables the collection and analysis of data on the causes of injury incidents. The system is used by almost 50 organisations, including schools, camps and outdoor recreation providers.
