Time is one of the most powerful — and most overlooked — tools in educational settings. We timetable it, measure it, divide it, and fill it. But how often do we truly examine how our use of time shapes children’s play?

This thought-provoking professional development session, Changing the Paradigm, invites educators to critically reflect on the way “time” operates in their environments. Together we will explore questions such as:

Do our schedules protect play — or interrupt it?

What happens to deep engagement when transitions are rushed?

How does adult urgency influence children’s creativity, collaboration, and risk-taking?

Are we managing time, or is time managing us?

Through discussion, reflection, and practical strategies, participants will challenge inherited assumptions about productivity, routines, and structure. We will consider how slowing down, extending uninterrupted play periods, and rethinking transitions can create richer, more meaningful play experiences.

This session is designed to stretch thinking, spark professional dialogue, and empower educators to use time intentionally — not as a constraint, but as a catalyst for play.

Because sometimes the most radical thing we can offer children … is time.
