The Australian Adventure Activity Standards (Aust AAS) and accompanying Good Practice Guides (GPGs) provide a voluntary framework to support the safe and responsible delivery of outdoor adventure activities involving dependent participants.
The 2025–26 review of the Aust AAS is being conducted by the Outdoor Council of Australia.
This review is intended to broaden the scope and structure of the Aust AAS/GPGs to reflect current expectations through four focus areas:
- Safety and risk management – Ensuring participants, leaders, and the public are protected from harm through prevention-focused planning, effective risk controls, and incident response systems.
- Environmental responsibility – Supporting sustainability and environmental stewardship through low-impact practices, conservation awareness, and responsible land and water use.
- Indigenous Australian Culture and Heritage – Recognising, respecting, and protecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural values, sites, stories, and knowledge systems.
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – Ensuring that all people — regardless of ability, age, gender, culture, or background — can safely and meaningfully participate.
People from across the Australian outdoor sector can contribute to the review in various ways. Some have joined expert panels, some people have been interviewed during the review, and some people have been engaged through outdoor peak bodies and activity-specific associations.
This forum is an additional way for people to provide feedback to the review of the Aust AAS/GPGs by informing Outdoors Queensland of your views. We want to hear from you to ensure we get it right.
Registration for the forum includes some questions to help shape the session. Even if you may not be able to attend the online forum, by completing the registration process including the survey, your thoughts will be considered.
Please note, the Teams meeting Join Link for the forum will be in the acknowledgement email you will receive on completion of the registration form.
