The Outdoor Council of Australia (OCA) has released Version 2.0 of the Australian Adventure Activity Standard (AAAS), marking the first comprehensive review of the national framework since its launch in 2019.

The release begins the next phase of the AAAS framework, with the Australian Adventure Activity Standard Version 2.0 and Core Australian Adventure Activity Good Practice Guide Version 2.0 released first, followed by updated Activity Good Practice Guides through a staged release process over the coming months.

The AAAS provide a good practice framework for safe and responsible planning and delivery of outdoor adventure activities with dependent participants. They are intended to strike a balance between providing guidance on the safety of dependent participants and also ensure appropriate behaviours while conducting activities. Appropriate behaviours are those that help protect our environmental and cultural heritage and help respecting the rights of other users. Environmental sustainability principles are an example of this.

To ensure organisations are set up to implement the new framework most effectively, we are hosting this forum to discuss:

  • AAAS is a key resource for all organisations offering outdoor activities
  • Who is covered by AAAS?
  • Why is AAAS important?
  • Where does AAAS fit with legislation/regulations?
  • What has changed in Version 2?
  • How does the AAAS framework fit together?
