Social isolation and loneliness can affect anyone, at any stage of life. This practical webinar explores how frontline professionals and volunteers can better understand, identify and respond to experiences of social isolation and loneliness.

Participants will explore the difference between social isolation and loneliness, the factors that can contribute to these experiences, and the potential impacts on wellbeing. The session will also introduce practical approaches for building connection, including person-centred practice, active listening, culturally safe and trauma-informed approaches, social prescribing and other tools for supporting connection.

Through discussion, reflection, and practical scenarios, participants will have opportunities to consider how they can recognise signs of social isolation and loneliness, respond appropriately, and connect people with relevant supports and services.

Who is this for?

This is suitable for frontline professionals and volunteers who support people and communities.

Participants will explore:

  • Understanding social isolation and loneliness
  • Prevalence, impacts, and protective factors
  • Techniques for identifying social isolation and loneliness
  • Practical approaches to supporting connection
  • Reflective practice and self-care
  • When and how to connect people with additional support

Please note:
This is a micro-credential webinar delivered by a trainer with a TAE-40122 and a certificate of participation will be awarded to those who participate in the full three-hour webinar. This is a non-accredited micro-credential and a Supporting Guide will be provided. Participants wanting to receive an E-Badge will submit a reflective piece for assessment following the webinar. Therefore, the webinar will not be recorded, and attendance online is necessary. This micro-credential is provided in conjunction with the Australia College of Volunteering and is regulated through Australia Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
