Queensland Walks Month is a free, online celebration of walking, running, rolling and strolling with an aim to improve the walkability of our beautiful state.Enjoy the endless benefits of taking a walk, run, roll or stroll anywhere in Queensland during August and join the online discussion. Tell us about your experiences or share your photos and reels to help improve the conditions where you walk in your neighbourhood and favourite walking spaces for every body – all ages and abilities, in every place.  Whether you walk, run, roll or stroll as a means of transport, health, recreation or for another reason, you can make a difference by joining us for Queensland Walks Month this August.

Escape in the Scenic Rim

During the month of May, as part of Escape in the Scenic Rim program, many wonderful walks were cancelled due to inclement weather.

We are thrilled to advise, that as part of the most excellent Queensland Walks program in August, five of the walks have been rescheduled. (see below for more info)

  • Sun 7 August – Boonah Ipswich Trail – Goan Section – Lilybrook – Western Trail Head,  Wyaralong Dam to Boonah.
  • Sat 13 August – Ramparts Lagoon
  • Sun 14 August – Great Escarpment Trail – Boonah Border Gate to Teviot Crossing
  • Sat 27 August – Great Escarpment Trail – Teviot Crossing to Mount Alford
  • Sun 28 August – Great Escarpment Trail – Mount Alford to Boonah.

EXPLORE BOONAH TO IPSWICH TRAIL
Throw on your hiking boots and immerse yourself in beautiful scenery as you tackle this six hour guided walk. Led by an experienced Bushwalking Queensland Guide, you will explore the original 17km stock route along Wyaralong Dam to Boonah.

Time: 9am – 3pm
Cost: $5
Address: 8am at Boonah Information Centre for a car pool option, or 9am at Lillybrook Camping Area (Western Trail Head).

Info: Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy hiking boots. BYO snacks, water and lunch. Max 20 people.

RAMPARTS LAGOON WALK

RAMPARTS LAGOON WALK
Join an experienced Bushwalking Queensland Guide as you explore a new track to Ramparts Lagoon. The moderate 20km walk follows a road easement through farmland to the base of Main Range. Enjoy a picnic at the large lagoon before returning via the same trail.

Time: 9am – 3pm

Cost: $5

Info: Meet at Aratula Roadside Rest Area, 6744 Cunningham Highway (for car pool option), opposite Arthur Clive Bakery, Aratula.

Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy walking boots. Walks are along the road and its verges. BYO snacks, water and lunch. Max 20 people.

THE GREAT ESCARPMENT TRAIL

The Great Escarpment Trail
Ickkaybin Section

Bushwalking Queensland is excited to introduce walkers to the Queensland section of the ‘in development’ brand new Great Escarpment Trail (GET). Over three separate days, participants will explore the Ickkaybin Section (Boonah Border Gate to Boonah) of GET. The trail is being developed in conjunction with Bushwalking New South Wales and will provide an outstanding recreation opportunity to explore the World Heritage Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, culture, history, and much more, stretching 1300km from between Barrington Tops National Park in New South Wales and Boonah in Queensland.

BOONAH BORDER GATE TO TEVIOT BROOK CROSSING
Discover the first Queensland section of the Great Escarpment Trail with this unique opportunity to explore the culture, history and scenery of the World Heritage Gondwana Rainforests of Australia. Join an experienced guide from Bushwalking Queensland as you head down Carneys Creek Road to Fletchers Road with a side stop at Tinys Lookout. Return to Carneys Creek Road and continue along the 13.8km trail to Teviot Brook Crossing.

Date: Sunday 7 August, 2022

Time: 8am – 4pm

Cost: $5

Address: Meet at Boonah Visitor Information Centre and car pool to Teviot Brook Crossing. Drop off some cars and drive the rest of the cars to the Boonah Border Gate. Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy hiking boots. BYO snacks, water and lunch. Max 20 people.

 TEVIOT BROOK CROSSING TO MOUNT ALFORD
Let your discovery of the Great Escarpment Trail continue with this guided 16.5km moderate walk to Dwyers Ridge Rd and on to Mount Alford. This walk starts from Teviot Brook Crossing on Carneys Creek Road and follows Carneys Creek Road to Dwyers Ridge Road and then onto Mount Alford. The route passes close to Minto Crags, a significant indigenous site for the Yuggerah Ugurapul people, and also the location of Captain Logan’s encounter with them, 195 years ago.

Date: Sunday 14 August 2022

Time: 8am – 4pm

Cost: $5

Address: Meet at Boonah Visitor Information Centre and car pool to Mount Alford. Drop off some cars and drive the rest of the cars to the Teviot Brook crossing. Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy walking boots. Walks are along the road and its verges. BYO snacks, water and lunch. Max 20 people.

MOUNT ALFORD TO BOONAH
The final stretch of the Great Escarpment Trail runs alongside farmlands and rolling hills between Mount Alford and Boonah including the Dugandan pathway. This 14.9km guided trail offers a moderate walk with a diversity of scenery.

Time: 8am – 4pm

Cost: $5

Address: Meet at Boonah Visitor Information Centre and car pool to Mount Alford. Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy walking boots. Walks are along the road and its verges. BYO snacks, water and lunch. Max 20 people.
