To improve the quality of strategic planning and prioritisation for sport and recreation infrastructure

Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni today announced the projects receiving funding from the Palaszczuk Government’s Sport and Recreation Planning Program, and said the program will improve the quality of strategic planning and prioritisation for sport and recreation infrastructure across Queensland.

“We’ve designed this program to help local clubs, sports and councils to gain a better understanding of the current sport and recreation infrastructure landscape at a local community level and better plan for the future,” Mr de Brenni said.

“Strategic planning is often a challenge for sporting clubs, particularly those which are reliant on volunteers.

“As an outcome of the funding, organisations will have quality planning documents which will support their ability to more effectively identify and prioritise the provision of infrastructure in the short, medium and long-term.

“This information will form an extensive knowledge base to help shape the development of upcoming Queensland Government sport and recreation funding initiatives to best meet the needs of the community.”

Mr de Brenni said the Palaszczuk Government is committed to supporting as many Queenslanders as possible to get active and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“We know that there are so many benefits to getting out and active,” Mr de Brenni said.

“The physical health benefits are clear, but involvement in sports also presents opportunities to make friends and become part of a supportive community.

“The information provided through the Sport and Recreation Planning Program will mean we will be better placed to support community participation in sport in the future.”
