Older Men in Majority of Drownings

57% were over 45-year-old men.

The Royal Life Saving Society Australia’s (RLSS) National Drowning Report 2023 shows that

  1. 281 people drowned in Australian waterways
  2. 77% of drowning deaths were male
  3. 57% were over the age of 45 years

The report also showed that most died trying to rescue a family member or loved one.
