Perched against each other in the long green grass, the young Scholl siblings take a quick break, just long enough to down an egg sandwich, a cool drink, and a few lollies.
Once they dust off their dirty jeans, big sister Josie helps youngest brother Bennett mount his horse, guiding his tiny legs into the stirrups.
That’s the job of a big sister — to watch over the younger ones during this epic 70-kilometre land expedition.
Their week-long journey tailed 450 head of cattle, crisscrossing the spectacular emerald countryside given new life from recent rain.
Blue gums, iron barks, and bottle trees line the makeshift dirt paths as they retrace the century-old stockmen’s routes.
“It’s all about driving cattle like they did back years ago,” Josie said.
