North Queenslanders invited to help plan the region’s future
North Queensland residents are being urged to share their ideas and help create the first ever North Queensland Regional Plan with community consultation kicking off this week.
Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland and Member for Mundingburra Coralee O’Rourke encouraged locals to have their say and help create a vision for the future of North Queensland.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for the community to get involved with the development of the North Queensland Regional Plan which will guide our region over the next 25 years,” Mrs O’Rourke said.
“The plan will bring together Townsville, Burdekin, Palm Island, Charters Towers and Hinchinbrook councils, local MPs and the community to harness North Queensland’s potential.
“The plan will provide the basis for the planning and delivery of infrastructure and services, connect council areas and improve opportunities for economic development and liveability and is core to the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to the future of our region.”
We encourage QORF members and others in the region to have their say so that outdoor experiences are highlighted as one of the keys to livability and prosperity in North Queensland.
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart encouraged the community to have their say on shaping North Queensland for the next 25 years and beyond.
“This is an important tool to manage growth in the region while protecting our fantastic lifestyle, so I encourage all members of the community to get involved in the conversation,” Mr Stewart said.
“Over the next six months North Queenslanders will have a chance to have their say on planning for our future by visiting our ideas hub at various community events located around the region or by getting involved online.”
Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper said the plan will benefit everyone living in the North Queensland region.
“Through the North Queensland Regional Plan we will be able to address issues specific to the North by bringing the government, councils and community together,” Mr Harper said.
“The development of the plan will be a genuinely collaborative process over the coming months to identify solutions to these local issues.”
Residents can have their say at the first two community events this weekend –
- Burdekin: Plantation Park Market, this Sunday 21 May between 8:00am and midday.
- Townsville: Heritage Day in West End Park off Ingham Road, this Sunday 21 May between 10:00am and 2:00pm.
You can have your say at www.qld.gov.au/PlanNQ or by visiting the North Queensland regional plan ideas hubs at a wide range of community events.
