$150 Fair Play Vouchers will be available from the 31st of July!

Queensland’s first ever ten-year Sport and Active Recreation Strategy is soon to be released, and with it a whole suite of measures to support local sporting clubs and help get Queenslanders active and involved in sport.

The support of the Palaszczuk Government’s new $150 “FairPlay” Vouchers, which used to be called “Get Started” Vouchers, will be available from 31 July for children to get out and active with our support.

I know the upfront costs of getting started in sport and active recreation can put pressure on the family budget, which is why the Palaszczuk Government set aside over $1.7 million in FairPlay vouchers for 12,000 kids and young people between the ages of 5-17 years to help eligible families cover those costs.

The Palaszczuk Government has proudly invested almost $27.7 million in the sports support program since January 2015, with an incredible 239,257 vouchers being distributed.

Round 1 of the vouchers will open on Wednesday 31 July, and are allocated on a first come, first served basis and they go quickly.  I encourage you to let your members and their families know so they can be ready to apply right away.

To be eligible, the child or young person must be:
•    a Queensland resident
•    aged between 5 and 17 years (on the day of application).

The child or young person must also:
•    hold, or have a parent, carer or guardian who holds a valid Department of Human Services Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card with the child’s name on it; or
•    be identified for a FairPlay voucher by a registered referral agent.

As part of a limited trial, families with a combined annual income of less than $55,000, who do not hold either a Health Care Card or Pensioner Card, can register an expression of interest for a FairPlay voucher.

There is a limit of 1 voucher per child/young person per calendar year.
Any child/young person who received a voucher in 2019 in Round 13 of Get Started Vouchers, will be eligible for a FairPlay voucher in Round 2, opening in January 2020.
