Queensland national parks camping and vehicle access bookings opening
Queensland national parks, forests and recreation areas that were closed due to COVID-19 are reopening in line with the Queensland Government’s roadmap to easing restrictions and the Chief Health Officer approved Industry COVID Safe Plan – QPWS Campgrounds.
Camping and vehicle access bookings can be made at https://qld.gov.au/camping for one month in advance of any planned visits.
K’gari (Fraser Island) Recreation Area is open for camping and vehicle access.
Bookings for Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) and Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) are open for day use and camping will reopen from 11:59pm on 12 June 2020.
Bribie Island and Cooloola recreation areas are open for day use and camping but have been designated Restricted Access Areas under the Recreation Areas Management Act to manage numbers for community safety.

Please follow all roadside and on-site regulatory signage and observe all notices, social distancing measures, maximum allowable numbers and all other health directions.
Before visiting a national park
- Always check Park Alerts before leaving home for up-to-date information for a specific location.
- Only visit open sites where there are car spaces available in the car park, follow social distancing measures and adhere to public gathering numbers.
- Do not attempt to visit any closed areas, unless authorised, for your own safety and protection, and that of your community.
- Please exercise appropriate hygiene with regard to washing hands with soap, use of sanitisers, and leave no trace behind when you depart.
Sites that remain closed
- Gateway Visitor Centres including—David Fleay Wildlife Park, Daisy Hill Koala Centre, Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre and the Mon Repos Turtle Centre – currently remain closed, however we are working to open these as soon as possible in line with Queensland Health directives.
- Travel Restrictions remain in force under the Commonwealth Biosecurity Act 2015 for designated indigenous community areas like Cape York Peninsula so if you’re planning a trip into these areas check out the requirements on the DATSIP website.
