Queensland National Parks backing tourism recovery
From tomorrow Queenslanders can book most campsites in national parks 12 months in advance, to help support tourism and regional jobs, which is an important part of the Palaszczuk Government’s recovery plan: Unite and Recover for Queensland Jobs.
Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef Leeanne Enoch said Queenslanders have done a great job in containing the spread of COVID-19, so we are now making it much easier for campers and caravan enthusiasts to plan their holidays over the next year.
“It’s obvious that people are eager to get out into nature, with more than 10,600 camping bookings and more than 5,000 vehicle access permits issued since bookings reopened,” Ms Enoch said.
“We’ve had a huge take up from people wanting to book their next outdoor adventure, and this important update will provide extra certainty to commercial operators and the tourism industry so they can continue to employ more people and drive economic recovery, particularly in our regions.
“Whether you are looking for a beachside getaway with the family during the school holidays or planning a wilderness adventure over Christmas, Queensland’s national parks, forests and recreation areas have something to suit everyone.
“In other exciting news for Queensland tourism, the popular David Fleay Wildlife Park on the Gold Coast reopens today, Friday 12 June 2020.
“You’ll notice some changes, however the Rangers and wildlife are all very excited to welcome visitors back with lots of new presentations in store.
Fleay’s is also the only wildlife park in the world where visitors can see Queensland’s beautiful Bridled Nailtail wallaby, once thought to be extinct. Bookings can be made online at qld.gov.au/davidfleay.
“Queenslanders are embracing local tourism opportunities and supporting local businesses by booking holidays here in Queensland.
“We live in such a big beautiful state, there is always somewhere new to explore, so I encourage everyone to get out and support our fellow Queenslanders.”
