Queensland chief health officer approves industry plans
Queenslanders, dust off your footy boots and activewear.
A significant portion of community sport in the state is set to return to near-normal in July.
The chief health officer Jeannette Young has approved COVID-safe plans for field sports, as well as the fitness industry.
Field Sports
From Friday, June 5, participants in sports such as soccer, rugby league and union, Australian rules football and hockey will be able to start training with their teams.
However, the training will be limited to non-contact – meaning a focus on skills with no tackling, wrestling or contested possession – in three groups of 20 players per field.
Fitness industry
Previously, gyms and personal trainers had been permitted to have classes of up to 20 participants or 20 people in a facility at once.
Under the new COVID-safe plan for the fitness industry, indoor gyms can apply to health authorities to have more than 20.
“Preparing the industry plan allowed us to consider aspects needed to continue to keep ourselves and our communities safe when we return to gyms,” Fitness Australia CEO Barrie Elvish said.
QORF welcomes the approval of industry COVID SAFE Plans for Fitness and Field Sports. We are working towards having industry plans for Outdoor Activities and Outdoor Education finalised and approved.
We will advise as soon as this happens.
