Weathering the storm
What a week! As TC Alfred became ex-TC Alfred, it still unleashed severe weather on greater south-east Queensland. We know that people outside the affected areas have been thinking of SEQ and offering support – that is appreciated.
A massive thanks must go to all of the people who have worked throughout Cyclone Alfred to keep people safe. From emergency services (especially SES) to Energex/Ergon crews, health care workers, defence force personnel, water supply operators, the staff at Bureau of Meteorology, the media who informed us, and all of the people at all levels of government who provided leadership.
South East Queensland is now moving into recovery mode. Outdoors Queensland is here to assist outdoor operators however we can. Our office building at Milton is closed due to water damage, but our team will work fully remotely until the office re-opens.
Information to help you / things to check:

Many of the natural areas we value for outdoor activities have been closed, from beaches and lakes through to national parks and campgrounds. Areas will be re-opened once inspected and deemed safe, but please allow time for those inspections to take place. In the meantime, check out QPWS Park Alerts, land/water manager websites (eg Seqwater), and local council websites.
There are a number of funding resources available. The Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements page has more information, and the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program is now open.
For more info on available disaster response funding following ex-TC Alfred, a great resource is available on the following webpage from The Grants Hub.
Take care when working or playing outdoors – as the situation in both Far North and South East Queensland is evolving day by day, please check out the relevant information sources for the locations you intend to visit and activities you intend to do. Be safe!
