Help shape the vision for a world-class precinct
Help shape the vision for a world-class precinct for Redlands Coast at Birkdale
Redlands Coast has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform an important parcel of land into an exciting, world-class precinct of local, regional and national significance; and Redland City Council is seeking community input into visioning for the site at 302 and 362-388 Old Cleveland Road East, Birkdale.
This is your chance to help shape this important part of Redlands Coast for current and future generations.
Could it be home to a water park, adventure sports, walking and cycling trails, picnic areas, educational or heritage activities, or even paddock-to-plate or other exciting ventures? Or could the precinct be a hub for interactive history tours, museums or arts venues? We invite you to start imagining.
The site, at 62 hectares (about 10 times the size of The Gabba precinct), is so large it could be home to many exciting projects that would enhance lifestyle, create jobs, boost the local economy and could bring forward important transport infrastructure.
Council has interest also in purchasing other nearby land, which could increase the precinct size to about 100 hectares.
The precinct includes areas of identified environmental, cultural and historical significance, which will be protected.
To help get you imagining future uses for the precinct, five leading urban design teams were asked to each develop a theme as visual ideas based on what is possible on the land. The images are concepts only and do not represent final plans for the site. The themes are:
- Education and discovery – How does the precinct enlighten us and provide innovation to better our lives? Is it a place for quiet, perhaps outdoor, learning?
- Agriculture and rural tradition – The land had a productive past in farming. How could we use that to help shape a sustainable future?
- Heritage and history – In what ways would you like to see the stories of place, from Traditional Owners to European settlers to the land’s role during World War II, acknowledged?
- Environment and ecology – How do we preserve, showcase and be innovative with the precinct’s environmental resilience and qualities into the future?
- Adventure and recreation – What exciting, compelling and family-friendly community facilities, assets and attractions would you like to see at Birkdale Community Precinct? Could it be the home for the highly anticipated Redlands Coast Adventure Sports Precinct?
