The Potential of a MTB Facility in the Mary Valley

Gympie Regional Council is undertaking a feasibility study to assess the potential for developing a nationally significant mountain bike facility in the Mary Valley. As part of this process, we’re inviting community input to help shape the vision and understand whether such a facility would meet the needs of both local residents and visitors.

What is a national-level mountain bike facility?
A nationally significant mountain bike facility typically features a network of trails offering a range of difficulty levels, from beginner to competition standard, designed to cater to a wide variety of riders. These facilities also include supporting infrastructure and amenities capable of hosting larger events and attracting riders from across the region and beyond.

Notable examples include Blue Derby Tasmania Mountain Biking Trails and Mystic Bike Park | Mountain Bike Park in Bright, Victoria.

This feasibility study is an initiative funded through Queensland Hydro’s Community Benefits Program. The proposed Borumba Pumped Hydro Project is a long-duration pumped hydro energy storage system being developed at Lake Borumba and surrounding areas located in between Imbil, west of the Sunshine Coast, and Jimna in the Somerset region.

As part of a broader feasibility study, we’re seeking community input on the potential development of mountain bike trails in the region.

Your feedback will help guide planning and ensure any future decisions reflect community priorities.

Survey open from 8 August to 5 September 2025.
