Australia's most disaster-prone state urged to prepare ahead of storm, flood and fire season
Queenslanders urged to prepare now for extreme fire, flood, and storm season
Queensland is bracing for a dangerous emergency season, with experts warning of a heightened risk of bushfires, floods, severe storms, and cyclones in late 2025. More than 60 bushfires are already burning across the state, and fire bans are in place in several regions. With high fuel loads, dry conditions, and above-average temperatures forecast, the risk of disaster is rising fast.
Authorities are urging residents to act now rather than wait. After years of heavy rain, rapid vegetation growth has left ideal fuel for fires. Meanwhile, the upcoming storm season is expected to bring destructive winds, flash flooding, and possibly cyclones.
Now is the time to prepare:
-
Clean gutters and remove flammable materials.
-
Secure outdoor items against strong winds.
-
Create or review your bushfire and flood emergency plan.
-
Prepare an emergency kit with essentials.
-
Check your insurance coverage and update if needed.
Early preparation can make a life-saving difference. Emergency services stress that simple actions today can reduce risks and protect lives tomorrow. Many communities are still recovering from last season’s disasters; therefore, it’s vital not to be caught off guard again.
Stay informed by following Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and the Bureau of Meteorology for real-time warnings and updates.
Don’t wait for disaster — act now to keep your family, home, and community safe this season.
