A coordinated approach to the development of mountain bike opportunities in QLD
Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) have appointed renowned trail consultancy company Common Ground Trails to work with the Queensland mountain bike community and key stakeholders to deliver a Queensland Mountain Bike Strategy.
The completed Strategy, partially funded through the Queensland Government’s Sport and Recreation Planning Program, will provide the framework for a coordinated approach to the development of mountain bike opportunities in the state.
Stakeholder and community consultation is integral to the development of the Strategy and will encompass clubs, private promoters, land managers, trail care alliances and state and local government authorities.
MTBA CEO, Shane Coppin said it’s an exciting time for mountain biking in Queensland hosting two major international events within a six-month period.
“The development of a Mountain Bike Strategy for Queensland will assist clubs, local and state government and other stakeholders with planning for the future growth of mountain biking in Queensland.”
Common Ground Trails is one of Australia’s leading trails planning, design and construction companies with extensive experience in strategy and master planning, tourism, and trail planning and design.
David Willcox, Director, said CGT are excited to work on such a significant project and what it offers to the states mountain biking and tourism experience.
“Queensland is witnessing growth in mountain bike activity, and as host to the UCI World Championships and Commonwealth Games, is poised to see a significant increase in awareness and participation,” said Mr Willcox.
“We are privileged to play a role in helping guide this growth in conjunction with the industry’s key stakeholders.”
