QORF AGM sees change to Management Committee

On Thursday evening, March 8, 2018, QORF, the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation, held its Annual General Meeting. Nothing very exciting about that you might think – however it did mark another milestone for QORF.

Andrew Boyle from Coefficient, resigned from his position as President of the Management Committee, a position he has held for over 10 years.

Ginny Mitchell, from Australian Catholic University and Outdoor Education Association of Queensland, was voted in as the new QORF President by the Management Committee, which happened to coincide with International Women’s Day!

Andrew Boyle accepted the role of Vice President and will be available to offer Ginny the benefit of his many years’ experience guiding the organisation. We are very grateful for all the time and effort he has put into the role over the years and acknowledge the great contribution he has made.

“I would like to thank Andrew “Critter” Boyle for leading QORF as its President for many years. Critter has always been ready to provide considered and thoughtful advice. I know we will continue to reap the rewards of Critter’s experience,” said QORF Executive Officer, Dom Courtney.

Former Vice President Dave Hills from Brisbane Grammar School has resigned from the Management Committee to focus on his PHD and helping to raise his young family. We thank him for his input and enthusiasm over the past few years and wish him well in his studies.

Ray Buchanan from Motorcycling Queensland becomes the most recent member of the Management Committee after being voted in at the AGM. We welcome him to QORF and appreciate the value his long involvement in outdoor recreation and the motorcycling community in Queensland will bring to the work of the Management Committee.

Angela Wright retains her position as Secretary and co-opted member Murray Stewart has signed up as Treasurer for another year. The other Committee members are Ian Heath (Scouts Queensland), Allana Bold (Queensland Canoeing) and Alana Thomson.

The Annual Report was presented at the AGM and is now available to read or download from the QORF website.

The AGM was preceded by an Outdoor Recreation Forum. Dom Courtney, QORF EO, described the projects that QORF is currently running and facilitated discussions on a range of topics that included the Australian Adventure Activity Standards, the Outdoor Council of Australia, NOLRS, Visioning the Outdoors, Be Fearless, the ICC rock climbing suitability investigation and much more.

Thank you to all those who attended both the Forum and the AGM. With the support of members and the outdoor community QORF will continue to effectively represent our sector and encourage others to engage with outdoor activities.
