Queensland government transport and road project plans for next 4 years
Cyclists will soon pedal with ease along David Low Way
Cyclists will soon pedal with ease between Bli Bli and Mount Coolum with a series of improvements to be rolled out next year along David Low Way.
Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the Transport and Main Roads’ Cycling Infrastructure Policy encouraged cycling as an alternative transport mode and complemented funding programs to provide cycling facilities across the state network.
“We’re committed to improving the safety of our transport network and promoting the growth of cycling on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Bailey said.
“More people cycling more often to work, school, or for recreation helps to manage increasing demands on our transport infrastructure.
“It reduces congestion and air pollution and improves people’s health and well-being.”
Mr Bailey said on-road cycle lanes would be rolled out at these locations on the David Low Way between Bli Bli and Coolum Beach:
- Mudjimba Esplanade to Petrie Avenue, Marcoola
- Tamarindus Street to Boardwalk Boulevard, Mount Coolum
- Warran Road to Williams Street, Coolum Beach
- Godfreys Avenue to the Sunshine Motorway, Bli Bli.
“The cycle improvements are being delivered as part of the $7.74m funding allocated in the Queensland Transport Investment Program (2016-17 to 2017-18) to improve cyclist safety in the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Bailey said.
“The department will begin engaging with key stakeholders and affected residents along David Low Way over coming months.
“Cycling is a key part of the Sunshine Coast lifestyle, and we are pleased to deliver these improvements for locals and visitors to the coast,” he said.
“Once completed, it will provide better facilities for cyclists, improve the safety and convenience of cycle networks between Bli Bli and Coolum Beach and encourage more people to cycle, more often.”
