Pioneering Outdoor Therapy Program

Expanding to serve adults in regional Queensland

Mindware Psychology and Camp Cooby have launched a comprehensive outdoor therapy program for adults, responding to growing demand for innovative mental health services in regional areas.

The groundbreaking program, developed by Clinical Psychologists, extends the success of their youth camps that have operated for eight years. This expansion addresses a crucial gap in mental health services for adults who benefit from nature-based therapeutic interventions.

“Our participants who aged out of our youth programs consistently requested continued access to these life-changing services,” says Tanya Hall, Clinical Psychologist and Co-Owner of Mindware Psychology and Camp Cooby. “We’ve reimagined our successful model to meet adult needs, focusing on social connections and functional assessments in a natural setting.”

The program offers a unique combination of clinical psychology services and outdoor experiences, including:

  • Comprehensive psychological assessments
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Life skills development
  • Social connection building
  • Respite care

At $2,000 per participant, the program is accessible through NDIS funding and provides exceptional value by combining multiple services into one comprehensive package.

The initiative also addresses regional workforce development, attracting psychology Masters students from major universities including UQ, UniSQ, Latrobe, and University of Canberra for supervised placements.

Olivia one of our placement students adds ‘As a Master of Counselling student at UC, my practical experience with Mindware has been transformative in countless ways. I quickly honed my skills through diverse experiences at the camps, enjoyed seeing participants thrive and meet their goals, forged lifelong friendships, and discovered unique job opportunities. Now, as I near the end of my degree, I’ve decided to stay in Toowoomba long-term, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of the Mindware team.’

“As a local UniSQ student, I was fortunate to complete a placement at the Mindware therapy camps, supporting children and adolescents in an outdoor therapeutic environment. This was an eye opening experience that transformed how I view therapy and neurodiversity, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this innovative approach as we expand into adult therapy camps!” Ruby another placement student

“This program not only supports adult mental health but also helps build regional psychology capacity by providing unique training opportunities for future practitioners,” Tanya adds.

The Adult Therapy Camp program is now accepting expressions of interest for its upcoming sessions.
