Consultation on the Outdoor Recreation & Leadership Qualification Review

HumanAbility is reviewing the Outdoor Recreation & Leadership Qualifications, and you are invited to get involved and have your say.

The goal of the review project is to enhance the relevance and applicability of qualifications to create clear and sustainable career pathways and to support existing and future growth in the industry. Draft documents have been released on HumanAbility’s webpage – https://humanability.com.au/projects/outdoor-recreation-qualification-review-.aspx

Given the extensive feedback received to date, HumanAbility have applied for and received a project extension to thoroughly incorporate feedback into the training products. As the qualifications have a large number of units and activity areas, and they want to ensure the new training product accurately reflects industry feedback.

HumanAbility are continuing to work with their Subject Matter Expert pool and Technical Committees to clarify industry consensus on unit content., and will then provide a further opportunity for the whole industry to view and validate the qualifications and units online.

All training products will be developed in line with  VET Qualification Reform Principles and the  Training Package Organising Framework. The revised project timeline includes:

• January – June 2026: Incorporate feedback from public and government consultation
• June– September 2026: Incorporate feedback and validation consultation (this stage will include draft units for validation)
• October 2026:  Senior Officials Check
• November 2026:  Finalisation and Submission
• December 2026: Assurance Body consideration and Skills Ministers’ endorsement
• January 2027: Release and post endorsement

The HumanAbility webpage invites feedback on the various components of the qualifications, including units of competency. It is important that as many people as possible get involved and provide feedback on this project.
