Now open for applications.
After weathering the storm of North and Far North Tropical Low, commencing 29 January 2025 and the resulting rainfall, the Queensland Government’s Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program is now open for applications. Eligible clubs in disaster-activated areas can apply for up to $5,000 in funding to support immediate clean-up efforts. For a list of declared areas click here, noting this list is subject to change.
Head to the department’s website to check your club’s eligibility, read through the program guidelines, familiarise yourself with the application process, and submit your application when ready.
The department’s grants management system has recently changed. All organisation’s must be registered in the new grants management system via the Grants Registration Portal (GRP) to apply for sport and recreation funding. If your organisation is already registered for FairPlay you do not need to re-register, just log in to the GRP. If your organisation is not registered in the GRP click here for more information.
Remember for now it’s important to prioritise your safety. Your organisation can also consider the following club clean-up tips:
- Keep your clubhouse closed until it has been safely assessed for structural damage.
- Refer to the ClubIQ recovery resources for practical tips when it’s safe to begin assessing and cleaning up your club
- Reconnect electricity and water only when it is safe to do so.
- Check insurance policies for flood coverage and contact insurers for guidance on the claims process.
- Take photos of damage to your facilities including tide marks or water heights and equipment to assist with insurance claims and any disaster-related funding submissions.
- Await inspections by building owners, engineers, or SES if there is significant damage.
- Wear appropriate PPE during the removal of damaged equipment and surfaces.
- Clear stormwater drains and remove debris to prevent further issues with rain.
- Before discarding, document damage to items individually, including images and serial numbers.
- Keep receipts for clean-up expenses, including materials, PPE, and machinery.
Keep club members informed via social media, email and text messages. See ClubIQ resources for a templated Communication Plan to support disaster response and recovery. Keep your local Council and State Level Organisation updated regarding any impacts to your club.
Follow the advice of local authorities, assess damages only when it’s safe to do so, and if you have any questions, please contact your local Sport and Recreation office.
