A simple road safety campaign with a focus on safety for kids walking to school.
Queensland Road Safety Week is on 21-25 August and Queensland Walks developed a simple road safety campaign with a focus on safety for kids walking to school, all thanks to a Community Road Safety Grant through the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
We want kids and parents to feel safe and empowered to walk to school, and improve the understanding of Queensland road rules and improve driver behaviour around the school gate.
Our launch at Ithaca Creek State School saw the kids take ownership of the campaign, presenting the video at school assembly and sparking conversation around road safety. This continued on through newsletter contributions and in-class discussions.
“Remember that wonderful feeling of walking to school or to the park as a child? Our children deserve the same freedom to walk, and we must ensure that when we drive, we drive safely, follow the rules by giving way, and slow down. We’re asking all Queensland drivers to see it from the other side.” (Anna Campbell, Executive Officer, Queensland Walks)
It would be great if you could be part of this important initiative.
The resource pack includes a two minute video, printable posters, flyers and stickers, and more. Please share these resources on your social channels and remember to follow and tag Queensland Walks so we can support your posts. I have also included a newsletter-friendly file (1080x1350px) for your use.
