2026 Occupation Shortage List Stakeholder Survey

The 2026 Occupation Shortage List Stakeholder Survey is now open.

Our stakeholders have on-the-ground knowledge and experience of industry recruitment activity and participation in this survey will improve the evidence we use to identify occupations in shortage.

The information we collect will provide us with insights into the recruitment challenges and occupations that might be in shortage across the Australian labour market. This annual process helps up to ensure the next Occupation Shortage List is based on comprehensive evidence.

The more groups that participate, the more valuable the data set is.

Context for outdoor operators:

In 2025, outdoor occupations (452215 Outdoor Adventure Instructor/Leader and 452299 Outdoor Adventure Guides) were included nationally in the Federal Government’s Occupational Shortage List.

Inclusion in this list can (and should) lead to increased support for training and recruiting people into the listed occupations.

It is important to have as many people from various organisations across the outdoor sector complete the survey to ensure a full picture of the state of the workforce is reflected in survey responses. Outdoors Queensland and other peak body organisations will complete the survey, but we need more organisations to contribute to the process.

Please register to obtain the link to the survey, which closes Friday 18 March 2026 at 5pm (AEDT).
