Important E-Mobility Use Update

Inquiry into the Transport and Other Legislation (Managing E-mobility Use and Protecting Our Communities) Amendment Bill 2026

On 25 March 2026, the Hon Brent Mickelberg MP, Minister for Transport and Main Roads, introduced the Bill into the Queensland Parliament and referred it to the State Development, Infrastructure and Works Committee for examination. The committee is required to report on its examination of the Bill by 8 May 2026.

This Bill includes amendments to make significant changes to how e-bikes and e-scooters are treated, including a new minimum age of 16 years for compliant devices, license requirements for riders of e-bikes/e-scooters, a 10 km/hr speed limit for e-bikes/e-scooters on both footpaths and shared paths, and mandatory compliance labelling for e-bikes.

The committee has scheduled a public hearing in Brisbane on Wednesday, 20 April 2026 to hear from invited witnesses.
