Open to Outdoors Queensland Members
Cancer Council NSW is excited to invite Outdoors Council of Australia members (which includes Outdoors Queensland Members) to take part in the Sun Safety Outdoors Photo Competition – and we’d love to see your organisation get involved!
Australia has some of the highest skin cancer rates in the world, with 2 in 3 Australians diagnosed during their lifetime. Outdoor recreation brings enormous health and wellbeing benefits, but it also means increased exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation – the major cause of skin cancer.
The good news? Skin cancer is preventable.
As a member organisation, you play an important role in protecting your staff, volunteers, participants and spectators. By putting strong sun protection in place, you help to:
- Keep your community safe while enjoying the outdoors
- Role‑model best practice sun safe behaviour
- Create a culture where sun protection is the norm
🌞 How to get involved
We’re looking for original photos that capture your outdoor activity demonstrating excellent sun protection in action, think of:
- Broad‑brimmed or bucket hats
- Long‑sleeved, protective clothing
- Shade structures naturally or purpose‑built
- Sunscreen use
- Sunglasses
- Appropriate activity-specific safety gear must also be worn where required
There’s no limit to how many photos you can submit – and creativity is encouraged!
