Caution urged after three deaths
Published: 10 April 2026
In a recent story from ABC News, tourists in the Glass House Mountains, are being warned to know their limits and follow safety advice after more than a dozen rescues from the Sunshine Coast’s three most deadly mountains so far this year. Authorities say the majority of rescues are hikers with little to no experience.
The story included a quote from Outdoors Queensland member, the Australian Climbing Association of Queensland – Hayden Bentley (ACAQ) said (both) peaks required “scrambling”, which he described as a middle ground between hiking and rock climbing that involved using hands and feet to ascend steep, complex terrain.
“They do involve scrambling up very steep rocks … you’re climbing on ledges, using rock for handholds, you might just be climbing on rock, using your hands and feet to ascend and descend.”
