Queensland rail trail investment

Outdoors Queensland welcomes this substantial investment into regional rail trails by the Qld Government

Published: 23 September 2025

The Crisafulli Government is committing $3.5 million to upgrade four regional rail trails across Queensland. This investment supports the Destination 2045 strategy, boosts ecotourism, and helps strengthen regional communities.

It will cover targeted improvements in safety, accessibility, and user experience. The funding comes from the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Rail Trail Program. Specifically, it will benefit:

  • Pioneer Valley Rail Trail — $75,000

  • Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail — $1.6 million

  • Bundaberg to Gin Gin Rail Trail — $147,000

  • Brisbane Valley Rail Trail — $1.6 million

By improving these trails, the government aims to grow Queensland’s biking tourism and offer new ways for people to enjoy nature.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Brent Mickelberg, said rail trails play a “vital role” in regional economies. He added that this funding will revitalize unused infrastructure, strengthen community connections to nature, and generate new opportunities for towns to thrive.

Outdoors Queensland welcomes the investment. Rail trails offer locals places to be active outdoors, and they create unique experiences for visitors to regional Queensland.
