Outdoors Queensland seeking Expressions of Interest
Outdoors Queensland is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for interested individuals who wish to be considered as an Appointed Board Member.

The Board is currently recruiting to fill a casual vacancy in an Appointed Director position (until July 2025).
About Outdoors Queensland Limited:
Outdoors Queensland is the peak body for the outdoors and outdoor activities in Queensland. We affirm the value of outdoor activity in all its various forms. We encourage all people to get outdoors and into outdoor activity.
Outdoors Queensland provides opportunities for outdoor recreation users at all levels to share ideas, discuss issues, network, influence policy and promote outdoor activities.
We aim to develop the capacity and capability of individuals and organisations across the Queensland outdoor sector, so that all people have opportunities to make connections with Queensland’s outdoors.
Outdoors Queensland delivers projects that align with our mission and vision, including the annual Outdoors Queensland Awards, industry forums, our Good Practice Outdoors project and the Queensland Outdoor Census.
Outdoors Queensland collaborates with a range of partner organisations to effectively amplify the voices of our members.
Our Board of Directors are responsible for strategy and governance, supported by the Executive Officer and other professional staff.

Position Details:
The Board currently meets six times each year, along with at least one General Meeting of members per year (AGM is usually held in March each year). Board sub-committees meet on an as required basis. Board members also serve as the judging panel for the Outdoors Queensland Awards, with a judging meeting held in August or September each year (this has been completed for 2024 Outdoors Queensland Awards),
Meetings are generally held at the Outdoors Queensland office in Milton, Brisbane, with capability and option for virtual attendance if required.
This is a voluntary role. Outdoors Queensland contributes to relevant professional development expenses of its Directors and reimburses Directors for expenses incurred in their roles as Directors.
Skills and Experience:
Outdoors Queensland aims to attract and retain an experienced Board to represent the interests of outdoor activities in Queensland. To achieve this, we are seeking an individual with:
- legal experience – specialising in NFP sector, integrity or commercial law, and/or
- extensive skills and professional background in the commercial sector, with experience in establishing sponsorship and partnerships, and/or
- managerial experience in outdoor activities (whether outdoor recreation, outdoor education, outdoor health, outdoor tourism or associated support services.
Previous or current Board experience is highly desirable.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Hold and provide their Director ID through the Australian Business Registry Service upon nomination,
- Hold or be eligible to hold a blue card,
- Be willing to obtain a National Police Check, and
- Have reviewed the Outdoors Queensland Constitution (particularly clause 7) to ensure their eligibility.

Applicants should provide the following documents:
- Covering Letter, no longer than two pages, and
- A Curriculum Vitae (CV), no longer than two pages.

Review Process and Timeframes:
The following review process is proposed to be conducted:
- All EOIs will be collated by the Company Secretary and provided to the Outdoors Queensland Board for their review and screening, following the closure of applications. Late EOIs may not be considered.
- A short list will be established by the Chair who will request interviews with any shortlisted applications, coordinated by the Company Secretary.
- Following interviews, the Board will consider a motion to appoint an applicant during a meeting of the Board on 20th November 2024.
- The Chair will contact the successful applicant following the Board meeting, and once the position has been accepted, formal notification will be issued to the Outdoors Queensland membership and wider community.
Note: Outdoors Queensland reserves all rights to not appoint/select anyone at the conclusion of the EOI process, at its absolute discretion. Outdoors Queensland may elect to postpone or terminate, during any stage of the EOI process as it deems necessary and will not be required to disclose the reasons due to privacy and confidentiality.
