First upgrades underway for hikers, mountain bikers and horse riders

Queensland Government funding of $150,000 will go towards upgrading the recreational trail network at Daisy Hill Conservation Park, in Logan City.

National Parks Minister Dr Steven Miles said a range of visitors would benefit from the upgrade.

“Daisy Hill Conservation Park provides visitors the opportunity to bushwalk, cycle or horse ride through 571 hectares of open eucalypt forest,” Dr Miles said.

“Now they can look forward to improved shared trails.

“Just 25 kilometres south of Brisbane, the park offers a range of recreational opportunities, as well as protecting important koala habitat.

“In addition, the Government will install new track signage and provide improved fire protection for the park,’ he said.

Minister for Housing and Public Works and Member for Springwood, Mick de Brenni – who has strongly advocated for the upgrade – said it would be a tremendous boost for Daisy Hill Conservation Park, which attracted around 400,000 people every year.

“This funding is an important next step for the Daisy Hill action plan,” Mr de Brenni said.

“But we are not stopping there, over recent months we have been talking to key stakeholders to inform the future direction, particularly in regards to the park’s significant values and existing recreational uses,” he said.

“A community workshop was held last month (July), because we now want to talk more broadly with park users, neighbours and the local community.

“While visitation is strong, we want to know how we can better service the growing number of visitors to the park, along with further improving and boosting environmental awareness and protection – including for koalas,’ he said.

A Directions Paper is currently being finalised detailing proposed future directions for the area, and will be released later this month for final consultation.
